I’ve posted some more photos! Some people pictures this time which is a rarity for me.

Deoksugung

A couple photos of 덕수궁 (Deoksugung) and one of 서울 (Seoul), city hall. I really liked these carvings.

Hwaseong Castle

This is one of my favorite places in Korea. I love 수원 (Suwon) and especially 화성 (Hwaseong Castle).

Kibumi

기붐이! 혜선’s little niece. It was good to see her.

I found a a series of photos off of digg that show some pieces of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s (마틴 루서 킹 2세) life, protests, and victories. While I was viewing this it really hit me how great of a man he was, how much influence he has had and still has today. He set a standard for human rights that extends beyond black and white relations in the USA to whole world. And he did this all without violence. He is one of God’s great followers. He truly walked in the steps of Jesus. I believe it was things like this that Jesus was talking about when he said the Kingdom of God is near.

On the plane back from Korea I watched a couple movies.

Across the Universe

Across the Universe poster

When I chose this movie out of the fifty or so options from Korean Air’s great selection it was out of curiosity. I didn’t even know it was a musical. But it is a musical. But it’s different than any other musical I have seen. Thirty-one of its thirty-four songs are from The Beatles. But, of course, sung by the actors which was really fun since they allowed many different types of voices to sing the songs, not just Beatles posers.

Another interesting thing was how the movie used the songs to progress the story. In many other musicals the songs (and dances) are really just there to be a song and a dance but not always that integral to the movie. A better way to put it might be that these other movies have a greater focus on the song and dance than they have of the story or the characters. But Across the Universe was really focused on the story and the characters and utilized the songs to build the two. It wasn’t that they were singing and dancing Beatles songs, it was that these songs were needed to for the story to progress and make sense. And there wasn’t that much dancing. Just the bowling scene from the trailer—which, like all trailers now-a-days, is spoiler filled and misleading.

The story was good and especially fun as it is being pulled along by the songs. It truly seems to be in the spirit of The Beatles. Though, I don’t know that much about them. It really seemed like a way to honor them.

Over all it was very fun and definitely worth watching.

Shrek the Third

Shrek the Third poster

This movie was okay. If you’ve seen the first one then you’ve seen them all. It was still fun, but it seemed as if all of the humor was just recycled in new situations. And of course this one had a message, though it was fairly similar to that of the first one. It was entertaining and I was curious and it’s probably still good for children. But I really wouldn’t suggest it.

In the past I’ve tried to start a few different blogs most of which failed to even have a single post. I think there was only one that I kept up for a while. But even that one soon died out. I think I totaled 5 posts there before it was forgotten. It’s not that I don’t have anything to write about, it’s just that when I get to the point where I’m actually writing about anything I forget all of my musings and ideas or it’s that I have troubles actually forming them into a coherent series of words.

But maybe, like so many other things, this is something that takes practice. I can’t expect to instantly be great at any other skill and maybe this is the same way. I already have some decent writing skills and there’s always lots of things going through my mind. Maybe I just need to warm up to it to the point where I can write things out. So here goes nothing.

I guess I should introduce myself; give my many readers some base from which to judge my subjective point of view. I’m 21 (22 tomorrow) or 23 by Korean standards. I’m a web developer of four years or so. I’ve been on computers since was a baby bouncing on the knee of my father playing a Space Invaders type game. At least that’s the earliest memory I have of computers. I’m also an amateur photographer. You can check out my Flickr photoblog. And I'm trying to following the way of Jesus of Nazareth.

Other than that, here I am posting to Tistory.
